8th Ogyen Do-ngag Chos-kyi Nyima

Ogyen Dongag Chökyi Nyima was born in the year 1854 at Ahlo Khateng in Dege. Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo and many other sublime masters recognized him as the reincarnation of Karma Gyurmed. He received full ordination from Gyatrul Pema Dongag Tenzin and regarded him as his root master, receiving the empowerments and oral transmissions of all the profound teachings of the union of Mahamudra and Dzogchen. From the great master Jamyang Khyentse Wangpo and many other masters, he received profound teachings and instructions on the sutras and tantras. He also perfected his studies and practices and thus became famous for his scholarly works and accomplishments in places as far and wide as the ten directions. After that, he shouldered the responsibility as the throne-holder of the victorious Palyul monastery. Under his care and tutelage, the principal teachings of the Ngagyur Kama and Terma, followed by the practices of the Preliminaries, Channels and Winds, and the successive instructions on Dzogchen teachings and so forth, were still safeguarded, thus spreading the Buddhadharma. So, finally at the age of 56 in the year 1906, his wisdom mind dissolved into the expanse of dharmadhatu.
