In the mid-eighteenth century Karma Lhawang was born in Palyul Ahchog as the grandson of the master Rigzin Kunzang Sherab. Bowing to the feet of many sublime beings like Khedup Karma Tashi and so forth, he engaged in extensive listening and contemplation of many sutras and tantras. In particular, he received the empowerments, oral transmissions and pith instructions of the distinct Nyingma teachings of Kama: triad of Sutra Which Gathers all Intentions, the Magical Net and the Mental Class, and Terma: triad of the Eight Herukas, Gathering of the Guru’s Intention, and Vajrakilaya; and perfected in it. He took responsibility of Palyul Namgyal Jangchub Chöling Monastery and propagated the Buddha–dharma uninterruptedly so that the teachings flourished like the soaring lake of the summer. In the latter part of his life, he lived as a yogi giving up worldly preoccupations and activities. Thus, his mind and apparent phenomena merged and could transform into many different manifestations and unobstructedly read the minds of others. Finally, he temporarily dissolved his bodily form into the expanse of dharmadhatu.
